Reflection statements on children rights
" A leader should be someone who is passionate to change the world and to change lives, they motivate and change society's self greed into compassion in order to stop children violations worldwide. "

When I first researched about the Children Rights issue, I knew about some aspects of the Children's Rights movement but I had no idea that it would be such an issue that would was not addressed in many major countries. When I think about homeless children, it can easily be related to me because I am still a child, for a child to have no home, to starve, and to be violated against would be the worst case possible. I was glad that throughout this project, we not only had the opportunity to research about different organizations other than Casa Alianza, which was our defender's organization, we had a chance to see that somehow everyone can be involved in making a difference to the world. Our defender, Bruce Harris, saved many lives and in my opinion, through his work; he was revolutionist, he established homes and a sense of security and governmental support for the children in Guatemala and all parts of South America. Even though his legacy is short lived because of his inappropriate behavior, he still changed many lives of the children in South America/Mexico. While researching I was most surprised about how much the United Declarations of Human Rights is making a change to the world and how individuals are trying to gain governmental support. I knew that the United States has great Children Right's programs that secure the safety of children, but many countries don't have those federal laws. With the United Declarations of Human Rights it could be a stepping stone for major countries or third world country to start a path in which Children's Rights wouldn't be an issue, if there were federal policies that established the safety of children then a lot of the problems would be nonexistent. As far as leadership, most activists and defenders of this cause come out as leaders to support this issue and because it is against the government; it is very dangerous, but a leader should be someone who is passionate to change the world, to change lives, that they motivate and change society's self greed into compassion in order to stop Children violations worldwide.
"NOT CARING ABOUT THE CHILDREN OF OUR GENERATION IS THE SAME THING AS NOT CARING ABOUT THE FUTURE OF OUR CHILDREN."

Children's rights are one of the most important rights that should be obeyed and strictly enforced. Bruce Harris, our defender, made a very big impact in defending children's rights. Especially in Latin America where he worked for Casa Alianza. He saved a lot of kids from being mistreated. He re-enforced the children's rights, gave them shelter, safe environment, and proper education. He protected children being abused. Being able to find people who are really dedicated to Children's rights surprised me. I didn't really care that much about children's rights because I don't see kids being abused here in Chicago, but researching made me realize that a lot of things are happening around the globe. Not eveyone is being treated fairly, some are abused and being hurt. And there are also brave people who are standing up for the rights of people being abused. I didn't really expect that there are a lot of people fighting for children's rights, and they form organizations. They might not have a big impact working alone, but when they all unite for the common goal, they will have a big impact. This project made me aware of what's happening around the globe, and that there are people who are heroes in their own ways. I didn’t expect that it will turn out this way; I thought it would be boring. But after a few days working on it, it started to be interesting. I can say that this project influenced me on how I think about Human Rights. It made me care more about it after I learned that people aren’t always treated the same way.

During my research, something I found surprising was the cause of the downfall of Bruce Harris’ (the defender) success. It was so ironic of how the man who created a child protection organization would be the one to break those rules out of his own intentions. To actually sexually assault a boy who was so be protected there from harms like those; Bruce faced the biggest regret of his life. Aside from that surprise, I also gained much information about the dangers children face every day. Global issues is a serious topic that I know, but after learning of poor treatment of children, lives of poverty, and the cruelties of society they go through, it is clear that the world is a very unjust place. Things that People can actually do are very freighting and disgusting. As a result of this research, I have learned that in order to be a good leader, one must really devote themselves to solving the issue at stake and care about the people and things around them. A leader cannot not falter or be lead astray; otherwise everything that one has worked for will be lost in confusion or even chaos. Also leadership is not only leading, but also being determined to find new ways or ideas in what they are trying to achieve.
